What is text to music?

You describe the music you want in words and Google Lyria 3.5 writes and performs an original track to match - either an instrumental or a full song with vocals.

Can it actually sing, or is it instrumental only?

It sings. Describe the vocal style and the words you want and Lyria performs them - ask for a chorus on a specific line and that line is what you hear. For a background bed, ask for "instrumental only, no vocals". Prompts asking for a specific real artist's voice are refused by the model.

Yes, whenever the track has vocals. The lyrics appear under the player once the track is ready, split into sections, with a copy button. Instrumental tracks come back without lyrics.

Can I supply my own lyrics?

Yes. Write Lyrics: in your prompt, then the lines you want, and the model sings them. Put the style, instruments and singer before it so Lyria knows how to perform them. Keep the lyrics to a length that fits the track you asked for.

Which languages can it sing in?

English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, Japanese and Korean. Name the language in your prompt, for example "a bright female vocal singing in Spanish", and the lyrics are written and sung in that language.

How long are the tracks?

About one to two minutes. Say "a 2-minute track" in your description and you get close to two minutes. Asking for something shorter than a minute does not work - the model still returns around a minute.

How many credits does one track cost?

20 credits per track, whatever the length and whether or not it has vocals. Failed generations are refunded automatically.

Can I use the music in a commercial video?

We cannot promise that. Google does not cover Lyria under its generative AI indemnity, and our provider's terms do not warrant that output is free of third-party rights. Check with your own legal advice before commercial use. Output is watermarked as AI-generated.

How is this different from Image to Music?

Same model, different starting point. Here your description drives the track, and you can add a reference image if you like. On Image to Music the picture comes first and Lyria reads its mood and theme, with your description as an optional extra.

How to write a text to music prompt

Lyria 3.5 follows what you write, so the prompt is where the song is made. Cover these pieces and you stay in control of the result.

Genre and era

Name the style and, if it matters, the decade. You can blend two genres in one track.

Say how the track should feel. Adjectives do most of the work here.
